Elvira Nurgalieva uses her diverse and lengthy experience of working with a culturally diverse range of people to provide a warm, safe therapeutic relationship where difficulties can be understood and possibilities for change can encouraged.
Although I completed an engineering degree I quite quickly realised that I really enjoyed working with people; that drawing and working with machines were not for me. I have always been interested by people — what shapes them to live in the particular way that they do and what makes them happy or unhappy.
I was doing my counselling training in a wide range of psychological models such as Art Therapy, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Systematic Constellations. Also, I have lived in New Zealand for three years where I was introduced to kiwi culture and values which are in many ways similar to Australian, European and Northern American culture particularly. Moreover, I encountered the difficulties many migrants/expatriates face in a new country such as cultural shock, anxiety, misunderstanding, feeling insecure, depression, language barrier, etc. I believe it has been good life experience which gave me better understanding of people, made me more compassionate, tolerant to our differences and shaped me into a better version of myself and equipped me as a psychologist as well.
I feel that each of us have the resources to accept or resolve psychological issues, and to improve our functioning and emotional well-being which at the end of the day enhance our resilience.
I am at your disposal for any questions.
